Bay West is currently seeking an Environmental Geologist/Engineer (Staff Professional) who will assist on various activities ranging from small local projects to large federal installations nationwide.  Typical projects include sites contaminated with petroleum, chlorinated solvents, metals, and residual munitions constituents. 

This position will report to either of the Minnesota office locations. This role is considered a career-track position to become a Project Manager or Senior Technical Advisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Remediation system maintenance, optimization and design
  • Procurement, contracting, and oversight of system maintenance, drilling, and excavation subcontractors
  • Oversight of contractor activities, including construction, drilling, excavation, and other remedial actions
  • Perform field activities such as soil, groundwater and vapor sampling.
  • Support estimates and proposals by developing technical approaches and cost estimates;
  • Prepare bidding specifications, evaluate subcontractor bids, and make recommendations for various site cleanup activities.
  • Prepare technical documents such as proposals, Work Plans, Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analyses (EE/CA), Uniform Federal Policy Quality Assurance Project Plans (UFP-QAPPs), Technical Memoranda, Records of Decision (ROD), Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Studies (RI/FS), Proposed Plans, and periodic monitoring reports.
  • Assist project managers with the coordination of field activities and support various projects being performed under CERCLA/RCRA on both local sites and national sites such as active military installations, Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS), and Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) facilities.
  • Be available for one week out of every six weeks to be part of an on-call Emergency Response (ER) team to clean-up hazardous and non-hazardous material spills, loading, unloading, and decontaminating ER equipment in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Willingness and ability to accurately interpret and apply knowledge of environmental theories, processes, and state and federal reporting requirements
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are required with strong technical writing and data management skills
  • Must be willing and able to travel between 10% - 20%. The successful candidate must be capable of receiving a US Government security clearance. US Citizenship Required.
  • Provide open communication with Team Leader on ways to improve Bay West techniques, operations and functions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related field.
  • Thorough understanding of current groundwater and soil sampling methods.
  • Proficiency using Word and Excel applications.
  • Currently have or willing to obtain a 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Reliable means of transportation on a 24-hour basis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Experience supporting multiple projects on deadline while providing excellent customer service.
  • Superb problem-solving skills, time-management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

Preferred:

  • Minimum 1-3 years of related environmental consulting experience including environmental investigations and sampling.   
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and laws, including, but not limited to, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) cleanup guidance and United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
