This position is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and healthy working, business, and community environment for Bay West employees and other business stakeholders, while complying with federal and state and environmental and occupational health, and safety regulations.


Manages Bay West's training program, including tracking all employees' progress, enrolling employees in classes, coordinating training providers and setting up classes for in-house training, and conducting training.

Conducts Safety and Health Orientation for new employees.

Chair of Bay West's Safety Committee - Creates agenda, holds scheduled meetings, and posts/distributes the minutes.

Maintains OSHA 300 records and compiles annual report.

Completes pre-qualification safety packets and contractor evaluation portals (ISNetWorld, Browz, PEC, PICs, etc.) for companies that subcontract with Bay West.

Ensures DOT program is compliant by maintaining complete DOT files and conducting annual driving record checks.

Investigates accidents and unsafe working conditions, studies possible causes, recommends remedial action, and reports them to Management.  Formulates into a lessons learned bulletin for all employees to review.

Identifies where controls need to be implemented to reduce or eliminate hazards and advise if a new program or practice is required.

Compiles, reviews, and approves accident prevention plans (APPs) site-safety and health plans (SSHPs), and hazard evaluation forms (HEFs).

Inspects and maintains adequate supply of equipment including respiratory inventory, SCBAs, air monitoring equipment, drager tubes, and MPCA instruments.

Analyzes work environments and design programs to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, radiological, and biological agents or ergonomic factors that involve the impact of equipment design on a worker's comfort or fatigue.

Ensure compliance with federal and state environmental/occupational health and safety regulations by completing required reports, posting notifications, maintaining records, applying for permits, implementing controls, and developing and implementing practices and programs such as OSHA, EPA, and DOT.

Determines medical exam and drug testing requirements based on employee job functions and contractual obligations. Serves as a back-up to Human Resources for medical exam compliance, Drug and Alcohol testing, and Workers Compensation and Reporting.

Comply with all safety, employee, and HR policies, procedures and practices.

Complete essential paperwork i.e., time cards, utilization and daily reports in a timely and proper manner.

Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) to provide clear direction and set expectations. Update SOPs to comply with state, federal, or local regulations and consistent with industry best practices.

Review opportunities for risk reduction with the Management Team Provide technical assistance to project managers and health and safety related concerns Perform industrial hygiene sampling and interpretation of results Approves Bay West subcontractor's safety programs and ratings so that they meet both Bay West and our client's requirements.

Conduct drills at facilities and project sites to evaluate emergency preparedness

Safety and Health Consulting:

Provides health and safety consulting services to external customers, including OSHA compliance, indoor air quality, etc.

Actively pursue new business/customer development opportunities, and work with existing customers to maximize current and future sales opportunities.

Resolve conflicts appropriately, accept responsibility for decision making, follow through on all commitments, and utilize internal and external resources appropriately.

Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, both orally and in writing, in a courteous and professional manner of observed or perceived health, safety or other work environment conditions. (This will be measured by feedback received from clients during customer satisfaction calls completed by the President.)

Occasional in-state and out-of-state overnight travel (up to 25%)


Bachelor's degree in related field

Current Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential, or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) with the ability to attain CSP certification within 6 months

7-10 years of industrial or construction safety or related experience

40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with current 8 Hour RefresherPrevious project management experience preferred

Possess a valid driver's licensePossess or have 24 hour access to reliable means of transportation
